SAT2Rescue is an international research project funded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). Its goal is to develop satellite communication solutions to support government institutions and non-governmental organizations in conducting faster and more effective rescue operations and responding to natural disasters, calamities, or crises caused by human activities.
A key element of the project is the modular satellite terminal, which, thanks to appropriately designed components, will enable portable and mobile applications. The terminal will also be resistant to harsh environmental conditions and GNSS signal interference, which is crucial for maintaining communication continuity in crisis situations. With Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology, the terminal enables connection security and separation of different types of data streams, tailored to the needs of various services or rescue teams operating in the field.
EXATEL’s Approach
As the leader of an international consortium in a project directly funded by the European Commission, we are developing satellite terminal modules, integrating with services offered through the GOVSATCOM HUB platform, and providing our satellite teleport for system testing and demonstrations. Participation in the project opens up numerous future opportunities for competitions, consortiums, and sales.
The project plans individual demonstrations for many potential clients (Border Guard, Police, Fire Brigade, mountain rescue units, crisis management units), creating opportunities to expand our portfolio of satellite communication clients and services. Additionally, demonstrations are planned for clients in Slovakia, Greece, and other EU countries, which means the possibility of expanding SATCOM services to the international market.
EXATEL is also involved in the project through collaboration in the design and construction of a portable telecommunications terminal.
