During the Cybersec 2017 conference, President Marcin Malicki presented the conclusion from a report on cybersecurity awareness within the Polish business community. The report was developed based on Kantar Millward Brown studies.

Study assumptions

The study covered a group of managers of large and medium-sized enterprises who are responsible for IT security. The methodology assumed asking for an opinion on the level of security in Polish companies. We were particularly interested in how IT managers evaluated threat level and protection adequacy. We also asked about their attitude towards outsourcing relative to building in-house systems.

More detailed questions concerned the threat structure and their potential impact on company operations. The researchers also inquired about preferred features of a potential partner providing cybersecurity services. The respondents talked about the types of cybersecurity systems used in their companies and about numerous other interesting related aspects.

Conclusions

Many conclusions can be drawn based on such a compelling study, however, a few come to mind immediately. Firstly, that awareness that Polish business has a lot of catching up to do and that the time of “impunity” for negligence is basically over is rapidly growing. Unfortunately, there is still popular belief that a problem can be solved by adopting certain regulations and standards at an organization, while ignoring the issue of employee education and high-class cybersecurity platforms.

We will soon disclose the full report along with expert commentary. We will announce the publication on our website and via Exatel’s Twitter profile.
