In recent days, the EXATEL Cybersecurity Team has identified fraud attempts involving the sending of fake invoices in our company’s name to companies outside of Poland. These companies are not our Clients, and the documents are unrelated to EXATEL.
To ensure the safety of our Customers and Business Partners, we have immediately taken appropriate steps. They included our own analysis and notifications to the relevant national units authorized to take actions in cases of fraud.
The current model of action is that the sender of the message most often impersonates someone from the company being attacked. The message sends a payment request along with a fake invoice for unsolicited services. The invoice template used in the scam is not the one EXATEL uses internationally.
What if I observe a similar incident in case of my company?
If you received this type of suspicious message, please forward it immediately to bok@exatel.pl. Your immediate response and forwarding of the message to us are crucial for effective analysis and rapid threat identification.
How should I report a suspicious invoice message?
In order to properly diagnose the origin of a suspicious invoice, our Cybersecurity Team must receive the original email. In order to achieve this, please send us the original message as an email attachment. This will preserve the data we need for a precise analysis of the reported case.
NOTE: Using the “Forward” button in your email client removes important information, and the attachment itself is insufficient for a full analysis.
Below, you will find short instructions for forwarding the message to us, using Microsoft Outlook as an example:
- Single-click on the suspicious message in your inbox to select it.
- In the top menu, on the “Home” tab, locate the “More” group (or click the three dots – “…”).
- Select the “Forward as attachment” option.
- A new, blank email will then open with the original, suspicious message attached.
- In the “To” field, enter the recipient’s address: bok@exatel.pl.
Thank you for your vigilance and assistance.
