At the sixteenth Global Space and Technology Convention in Singapore (15-16 February 2023), the Space Technologies Cluster and Singapore Space & Technology Ltd signed a cooperation agreement. Lynette Tan, Chief Executive of SSTL signed the document on behalf of the SSTL, while Rafał Magryś, Chairman of the KTK Council, signed it on behalf of the Space Technologies Cluster.
The importance of this event for the Polish space industry is enhanced by the fact that Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, was present at the signing.
The partners will cooperate in the area of space technology development and knowledge transfer. The signed Memorandum of Understanding is also expected to help support the Cluster in its activities in foreign markets, which is a natural stage of development for such an organization. In addition, each of the signatories has numerous relationships in their respective countries and abroad, enabling mutual assistance in reaching out to new business partners and mutual recommendations.
‘There are many reasons why the first Cluster partnership agreement has been concluded with a Singaporean company. The Cluster, just like SSTL, notices the growing importance of the space industry in state and global economy. Singapore is one of several business and technology centres of the world. It is also the leader in the aerospace industry in the Pacific region. Singaporeans value tangible actions and are very open to working with partners who take the partnerships seriously. The Space Technologies Cluster is looking for exactly such partners: focused, open, trustworthy leaders in the field of space technology. We believe that the cooperation between Singapore and Poland will bear fruit in the form of new space technologies and implementations not only on a regional, but also on a global scale, and will contribute to the growth of the importance of both countries in the new global space economy’ – said Rafał Magryś.
‘Poland wants to dynamically increase its share in the global space market year by year. One of the goals of the Polish Space Strategy is to reach a threshold of 3% of market share in the European space market by 2030. Another important goal ahead is to significantly increase the use of satellite data by public administrations in order to carry out their tasks more effectively, especially in the fields of security and defence. The whole world is witnessing the importance of satellite communications during the war in Ukraine. It’s important to not only have trusted partners in this field, but to have your own independent ecosystem of satellite communications. Quantum technology, particularly quantum information encryption and quantum key distribution, is becoming increasingly important in the security of information transmitted using satellite systems. These are the areas of cooperation that we want to discuss with Singaporean entities. Polish space sector, including EXATEL, also work in this areas. We are not a bystander, watching, while other countries join the ongoing race toward the future. It is essential to exchange knowledge and experience in space technology in order to achieve our goals. The services and products of the space market support our daily lives greatly, but they require a skilled workforce. That’s why we are signing this agreement with our Singaporean Partner, to cooperate and exchange knowledge and experience, to respond to the growing needs of our societies and economies’ – said Maciej Małecki.
The Space Technologies Cluster aims at establishing cooperation and promoting the Polish space industry. The organization was created at the discretion of EXATEL – a Polish telecommunications operator. The Space Technologies Cluster unifies the leading players in the space sector. The Cluster consists of the most important national commercial companies (both private and state-owned), scientific and research organizations, academics and institutions connected to the space industry sector.
