Amazon Fire TV is a minor tool that can be connected to any mobile device with an Android system. It enables streaming images to TVs or other displays. The device is compatible with any Android version, but the software is not certified by Google.
Miner on Amazon Fire TV
ADB.miner, a worm hiding in apps developed for Amazon Fire was detected just recently. The malware automatically downloads additional ‘com.google.time.timer’ files after being installed. As a result, the infected device starts to operate as a cryptocurrency miner.
Infection symptoms
The only visible infection symptom, besides so-called lags (visible delays in image streaming), was a ‘Test’ message appearing occasionally in the bottom left corner. If the user was not using Amazon Fire TV (meaning the device remained switched off), the app utilized device resources for cryptocurrency mining.
The only certain method to get rid of ADB.miner was to restore the factory settings of your device.
