The personal data of many children are available for sale at the Darknet Dream Market forum (one of the largest Tor markets).
The offer includes such information as the social security number (SSN) of the children, their date of birth and mother’s maiden name. The article does not state the number of persons this leak affected, as well as their age. Access to this data was priced at USD 300 in Bitcoins.
What can the Dream Market data be used for?
Such information can prove very valuable to criminals. The personal data of “clean” people can already be abused within their criminal activity. Moreover, patient persons can exploit this stolen data several years down the line, when their owners will be of legal age. It can be used to enter into credit commitments or to break into the affecteds’ bank accounts.
Such leakages are not uncommon. Not so long ago, a leak of British company data to the Dark Web, which we also reported on our Cyber Blog, was in the spotlight.
