Today, that is on 5 November 2021, during the Kongres590 in Jasionka, podkarpackie voivodeship, 20 leading Polish companies and expert entities established the Space Technologies Cluster.
The organisation aims at cooperation in the field of creation, development and implementation of space technologies that are currently emerging in our country. The involvement of a large group of commercial companies, research and development organisations, representatives of the academic community and institutions from the space sector environment means that the Space Technologies Cluster brings together entities responsible for more than 85% of the space sector’s potential in Poland.
The signing of the Space Technologies Cluster agreement is a continuation of activities initiated in January (2021) by the local government of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Polish telecommunications operator EXATEL, Rzeszów University of Technology and the State Higher School of Technology and Economics in Jarosław.
“The basis of a strong Poland is sovereignty. Sovereignty in every domain – within the field of energy, military, cyber security or, finally, space. It must be based on building and developing the country’s own competences.
Thanks to the Space Technologies Cluster, the entire sector can work together to create better Polish solutions that not only will accommodate Polish needs, but will also be suitable for foreign markets – and thus build international expansion. I know that today’s event is of great value in this context; the most important players in the Polish space sector start to cooperate, creating a mechanism that will enable them to combine their potentials” stated Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets.
The main task of the Cluster will be to develop resources and competencies in the area of space techniques and technologies. The goal is to enable successful delivery of satellite system components to the market and, in the future, development of fully functional space systems.
“The signing of the Cluster agreement is the culmination of several months of preparation and selecting the best available formula. Our aim in setting up the Cluster was to enable the entire industry to co-create the institutional and financial framework necessary for the development of space initiatives. The founding companies of the Space Technologies Cluster have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to successfully implement the most complex projects. We want to go further and fully commercialise the existing and future work results. We also know that together we have a potential comparable to that of many foreign companies – what we have lacked so far is a consolidation tool” said Rafał Magryś, Vice President of the EXATEL Management Board.
What is worth noting is that the Cluster will strive, among other things, to design and launch the Polish constellation of observation microsatellites by 2026, as outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. This is particularly important for building the image of Poland as a country active in the space field; it also safeguards Polish economic and military interests.
