The SEQRET consortium is laying the groundwork for a quantum revolution in the European Union and plans to deliver the world’s first certification-ready quantum key distribution (QKD) system. The designed QKD system will allow for mass applications, take into account significant technological trends such as post-quantum cryptography, and as such will form the basis of secure communication in the EU. A key element of the project is to create the world’s first QKD certification process compliant with Common Criteria EAL4+ and introducing stringent security standards for quantum communication.

The SEQRET project (Secure and Industrialized Quantum Key Distribution for European Telecom Networks) is the result of cooperation among leaders in the quantum and telecommunications industries. The consortium is led by KEEQuant, with extensive knowledge in the field of QKD. Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity is involved in the part of the project concerning the preparation of a business model for the developed solutions. SMART Photonics handles the production of photonic integrated circuits and their optimization for quality and mass production efficiency. Dacoso will ensure product availability for future customers by developing a complete platform lifecycle process and the necessary documentation for implementing high-security QKD devices. EXATEL, the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center, and CESNET bring knowledge of the real needs of telecommunications operators and their customers, allowing the product to be tailored to market requirements early in the project. This joint effort will provide an unprecedented level of cybersecurity, giving Europe a quantum-ready future.

“Participation in the project is an extraordinary opportunity for us to prepare to provide security services at an even higher level while being at the forefront of technological innovation,” says Mateusz Ozimek, SEQRET Project Manager and Expert in R&D Projects at EXATEL.

This initiative exemplifies Europe’s commitment to securing its place at the forefront of the quantum race, strengthening its position in advanced telecommunications technologies, and shaping a secure future – in this case, secured by quantum technology.
