Many important discussion panels were held during the 9th European Economic Forum. One of them was titled: “Cybersecurity of critical infrastructure”.
Critical infrastructure has always been under the special protection of the State, as it is crucial to the security and quality of life of the citizens. For at least a decade the notion has also included ICT infrastructure. For the last several years we have been witnessing escalating activities within the cyberspace. Services, criminals and activists of various movements are very active. The low level of investment required for conducting hostile activities on the web and the minimum risk of retaliation has resulted in a rapidly growing number of cyberattacks targeting all institutions.
Therefore, critical IT infrastructure faces an enormous attack threat. The panelists, who included Michał Szczęsny, director of network planning and architecture at EXATEL, analysed the role of primary infrastructural elements and defined key risk areas. The discussion of the professionalization of cybercrime and analyses of potential attack consequences were very interesting from EXATEL’s perspective. Tools and costs required to ensure cybersecurity were also discussed, based on the experience of the participants, including the Exatel SOC team. Naturally, the role of the State and its cooperation with economic entities could not be omitted.
